2017 Toyota 86 Indianapolis IN
When it was announced that the Scion name was going the way of the dinosaurs, there was some concern that the most popular options would be nixed entirely. Fortunately, the Scion FR-S is one sporty and attractive model that the automaker decided would be absorbed under the Toyota umbrella, renamed the 86 as it already is in other markets. We’re happy to announce the 2017 Toyota 86 is available outside Indianapolis IN here at Carver Toyota of Columbus and Taylorsville with a fresh look.
One of the reasons it’s exciting to see the 2017 Toyota 86 stick around is because the brand was previously missing out on a sporty and youthful model to offer something exciting for enthusiasts. The 2017 Toyota 86 takes the basic premise of the FR-S, but has boosted the already impressive model as a welcome to the brand. This means more style, more features and an overall boost to its performance. If looks alone don’t win you over, you’ll have to have one once you take a test drive and open it up.
What do you need to know about the Toyota 86 performance? Under the hood is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that delivers an impressive 205 horsepower and 156 pound-feet of torque to the rear-wheel drive configuration. Paired with it is either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.
The 2017 Toyota isn’t all style and no performance, but its looks certainly don’t hurt the appeal. The low and aggressive stance is paired nicely with a contrasting grille, slim and angular LED headlights and DRLs. Moving into the interior, you’ll find sports seats with silver accent stitching and a driver-focused dash.
Standard features found in the 86 include a backup camera, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, eight-speaker sound, Bluetooth connectivity, full power features, keyless entry, cruise control, LED headlights and taillights, twisted alloy wheels, 86 badging throughout and Gralux soft-touch material.
Test drive the 2017 Toyota 86
You can see the performance specs, read about the features and get a sense for the style, but you won’t really know if the 2017 Toyota 86 is the right car for you until you stop by Carver Toyota to take it for a test drive. When you do, you’ll find that it’s an easy decision to make as the 86 is only offered in a single trim as a two-door coupe. Pick between the manual or automatic, and select from among the seven color options and you’re all set. You may want to add on some accessories for style, but there aren’t complicated packages or surprises with the new Toyota 86.
As the Scion FR-S, the model was tested by Car and Driver and reached 0-60 in just 6.4 seconds. The 2017 Toyota 86 is expected to do even better thanks to its boost in horsepower, but already earns an EPA-estimated 24 city and 32 highway MPG rating, which is a slight boost over the outgoing Scion FR-S. What this means for you is a model that is more powerful, while also costing less to drive.
Other things to consider when it comes to this sporty addition to the Toyota name is the model’s revised suspension system with a new rear sway bar, and updated spring rates and shock components. The model is lighter, but stronger, and has a Vehicle Stability Control Track Mode to temporarily boost performance.
